Justin Bieber thrilled a group of volunteers at a food bank in Canada on Wednesday (21Dec11) by dropping in for a surprise visit.

The pop star performed a charity gig at Toronto’s Massey Hall that night and before the show, he took time out to meet schoolkids working at the city’s Daily Bread Food Bank.

Bieber, who has spoken openly about his own family’s reliance on food banks during his childhood, took a donation to the organisation and spent time with the young volunteers.

He subsequently opened up about his charity visit in a series of posts on Twitter.com. He writes, “Great day so far. All about giving back today… Met some great volunteers doing great things here at food banks in Toronto.”

Justin Bieber Bonanza Just Thrown Together

Justin Bieber performs songs from his hit album Under The Mistletoe at Massey Hall in Toronto on Wednesday night. All proceeds from the concert will benefit Justin’s BELIEVE charity drive. (Dec. 21, 2011)

Leave ’em wanting more is a fairly firm adage, but what happens when you’re faced with an uncritical audience that always wants more?

Something like what went down at the taping of Justin Bieber’s MuchMusic/CTV Christmas special, Home for the Holidays, at Massey Hall on Wednesday night, that’s what.

Now, obviously, Bieber’s young, female fans are a patient and doting breed. I talked to four young girls from Burlington, Ont., outside the venue before the show who’d been hanging by the backstage door since 9 a.m. in hopes of getting some last-minute tickets to the gig, a benefit concert for Bieber’s Believe charity that sold all of its 2,600 or so tickets in about 30 minutes last Sunday.

They were all soaked to the bone and weeping streaks of mascara but they still hadn’t given up hope of getting in an hour before the scheduled showtime of 7 p.m. Obviously, they believed.
